And now, like the weary writers of so many of our favorite television programs, I bring you this clip show, rebranded as a sentimental "look back." Cue the montage music:
1. Before I get to food, can I tell you about Vacation Hat Season (VHS)? It started with my dad's strangely extensive hunting hat collection, and grew to become, as they say, a "thing." This thing lasts from All Saint's Day through New Year's Day. VHS has been in its latency for near a month now, but it really hits its stride at Thanksgiving. It asks that you wear a hat, and that you feel relaxed. Try it. It requires so little of you and gives so much in return. Don't want to talk with Uncle Jerry about Obamacare? Put on a hat--the more outrageous, the better. Then talk about hats for a while instead.
Here's me wearing a vacation hat (VH) in 2008, sitting in a vacation chair (VC!). Look how relaxed. LOOK HOW RELAXED.

2. Meals from a modern past slated to appear on our table tomorrow:
Carrot Cauliflower Soup.

Beet Farm Salad.

Arugula Orange Cranberry Relish.

Garlic Kale Mashed Potatoes.

Stuffing.

Pumpkin Pie.

3. Modern meals adapted from others slated to appear on our table tomorrow:
Roasted Winter Squash and Caramelized Onion Tart.
Something like this.
Rustic Apple Cake.
Something like this.
A Classic Cocktail.
Just kidding.
4. More ideas here. And check the archives from Fall/Winters' past.
5. It's Decorative Gourd Season. Have a great one, pals! See you next week.
